On the show I've made no secret of the fact that I can't stand the heat. In related news, that's also why I stay out of the kitchen.

Once the mercury rises above 77 or 78 degrees I'm just flat-out uncomfortable. I'll take the cold -- I can always put on another sweater. But there's only so naked the law allows me to get without punishment. So this past summer was one right up my alley.

By this point on the calendar 90° readings become exceedingly rare. If we're finished with the heat for 2014, it indeed has been one of the coolest on record. The National Weather Service reports:

  • Only two days in the 90s this year, while the normal number is 15
  • That's the fewest 90-degree days since 2004
  • Only four other years since 1905 have recorded this few 90-degree days
  • The average temperature through Sept. 16 is the third-coolest year-to-date since 1906. Only 1979 and 1912 have been lower

What's to come? Well, the Old Farmer's Almanac predicts a colder than normal and snowier than normal winter. Although, could anything be colder and snowier than last winter? I guess we'll find out.
