Trip Advisor has compiled their list of best museums in the world and a Chicago "Institution" comes in at number 2.That's right the Art Institute of Chicago took the number 2 slot right behind the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. If you've ever been there you can see where they're coming from. It really is a fantastic place that will take you days to fully explore.

I used to walk by the Institute all the time when I worked downtown and was always amazed at the line of people waiting to go in but whenever I actually went in it seemed pretty empty because of the sheer size of the place. You also should visit just to get a picture of the lions guarding the place, they might even have a Bears helmet on if the time is right.

If you want to plan a trip to the Art Institute keep in mind that all Thursday evenings are free admission for Illinois residents (sorry Wisconsin) and kids under 13 are also always free. Any other info on the Institute can be found here.
