town names

The reason I ask is because I got a call the other day from an author who's promoting his latest book. He wondered if I had gotten a copy of the book that he had sent to me at the radio station here in Rockford. When I said that I hadn't, he told me it must have gone to the wrong Rockford.

A year or so back, I posted a piece in this space called "Some Illinois Towns Have Weird Names." Some of the Illinois towns mentioned as being weirdly named were: Goofy Ridge, Oblong, Lowpoint, Muddy, Ransom, and Preemption. Time to make the move from weirdness to lewdness.

Okay, maybe here in Illinois we don't torture the tongue with places like Ypsilanti, Oconomowoc, Menomonee, and Waukesha, but we do have a few places that, for folks outside Illinois, seem to be a little tough to pronounce.
