We are approaching the time of year when it's going to start getting seriously hot. What many don't understand about weather in Illinois is that heat is based not just on temperature, but also humidity. Now, you can see the 30 Illinois places that are about to be seriously dripping wet with sweat more than any others.

I can already hear the naysayers laughing at the news that Missouri's summer will be hot. Of course it will be hot they'll say and they're not wrong. However, there's a difference between Missouri's normally hot summers and record heat and Farmer's Almanac says records may be broken.

You can expect a radical change in the weather in Illinois near the start of the week as a fast-moving storm system will cause temperatures in the state to plummet 50 degrees (or more) in only hours.

There's good news and bad news about what many forecasters consider to be a dangerous storm system that will impact Missouri early next week. It is expected to crash Missouri temperatures and cause them to freefall more than 50 degrees in just hours, but that drop won't last long.

I want to warn you ahead of time so you're not startled. There is a very good chance that you'll see something that hasn't been seen over Missouri for a long time. It's a 'mysterious ball of fire', but don't be alarmed. It's not the end of the world - yet.

My radio career began doing weekend weather forecasts which is odd because I used to know next to nothing about weather. That's why I defer to the experts from the National Weather Service when it comes to forecasts. They just said that the polar vortex will soon return to Missouri with a vengeance, but I have questions.

Most towns in Missouri have at least one reason to brag. But, for one tiny place in the Show Me State, it has multiple reasons to be proud. Not only can they claim they have the highest average temperature in Missouri, but they also have what many believe is the funniest town name.

Both Missouri and Illinois have had a very mild winter so far especially as far as temperatures are concerned. That's about to change big time this weekend as both states will see the thermometer nosedive to well below zero and it's likely to stay there for awhile.

If you've ever heard Missouri's weather in March being described as "in like a lamb and out like a lion", it appears that will be true in December, too. But, it will be for a completely different reason.
