If you're office or break room is anything like mine, then you have a cupboard full of coffee mugs above the kitchen sink; most of which where acquired through some kind of promotion or given to you by a client. Then, there's that one random mug- you know the one, it's kind of cute and it has a little saying on it like, "There's a chance there's vodka in this mug;" you see it and you're like, oh this is perfect for a Monday.

It's also perfect for leaving alone, because the chances of it belonging to someone is pretty good and if they catch you with it, they'll be really upset - even though you've never even seen them drinking from it. I've been down this road. A co-worker came up to me one morning and was like, "umm, excuse me, but where did you get that coffee mug?" Me: "Ummm it was in the cupboard in the breakroom; is it yours? I'm sorry." Them: "Uh,  yeah." Awkward.

But it turns out there's actually six reasons as to why we all have this emotional attachment to our coffee mugs, I'd be lying if I said I didn't have a special one that I like to use every Sunday morning, and here's why; according to Psychology Today:

1. There's the simple sense of personal ownership.

2. It's a reminder of a special time, gift or person in your life.

3. Your mug conveys a personal message about who you are; it gets you.

4. It can conjure up warm feelings just by what you put inside of it.

5. It's part of your comfy, cozy morning routine.

6. You're in a mindful state; it's just you and your coffee.

Do you have a favorite coffee mug? What makes it so special?
