Rockford is quickly becoming a craft brew hotspot with the news of a fourth brewery opening up in town.

You'll soon be able to add the name Urban Forest to PigMinds, Carlyle, and Prairie Street to the list of craft breweries in Rockford.

RRStar - (Alex) Cando, 43, of Loves Park, and (Heath) Meyers, 45, of Cherry Valley, chose their location with an eye on their craft-brew competition and community: The 6525 E. Riverside Blvd. site is at least five miles from Pig Minds Brewing Co. in Machesney Park, and Carlyle Brewing Co. and Prairie Street Brewhouse in downtown Rockford.

It's great to see two local guys achieve their dream in their hometown.

They've already had some success. They entered some of their product in the Screw City Beer Festival and said they were "overwhelmed" by the support.

Urban Forest Brewing hopes to open sometime this summer. Plans for a tap room with food service is in the plans but the owners say that until then patrons are welcome to bring in food from other establishments.
