If you bought peas recently at an ALDI store in Illinois, please check your freezer right away. Consuming them, could make you very sick.

The frozen peas you need to look for are the 16 oz bags of Season's Choice Frozen Sweet Peas, manufactured by Lakeside Foods, due to possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination.

The CDC says listeria

Can cause fever and diarrhea similar to other foodborne germs, but this type of Listeria infection is rarely diagnosed. Symptoms in people with invasive listeriosis, meaning the bacteria has spread beyond the gut, depend on whether the person is pregnant.

The product has been pulled from ALDI store shelves as of today, but if you shop at ALDI, you may have some in your freezer.

ALDI says the potentially affected peas, are packaged in a 16 oz. bag, with UPC code: 041498164294 and has one of these package dates:

The frozen peas were sold in ALDI locations in:

  • Illinois
  • Iowa
  • Kentucky
  • Michigan
  • Ohio
  • West Virginia
  • Florida

If you have any affected packages, please throw them out or return them to ALDI for a full refund.

To date, no illnesses have been reported.
