Police Search For Suspects in Rockford Murder

The Rockford Police department is looking for suspects in a deadly shooting on the city's east side.

Officers initially responded early Sunday morning to the 1700 block of 17th Street to investigate a suspicious incident. According to a press release, a passerby had noticed a parked vehicle, with the driver side window partially broken out, the engine running, and the headlights illuminated. Upon further investigation, the passerby saw the sole occupant, sitting in the driver seat, suffering from what appeared to be gunshot wound to the head.

Upon arrival, officers confirmed the male was deceased. He has now been identified as 37-year-old Christopher A. Kearns.

Officials say the incident is being investigated as a homicide. No suspects currently are in custody. Anyone with information is asked to call Rockford Police or Crimestoppers.
