You know it's been cold recently but just how do the recent temperatures stack up historically?

Well, according to the National Weather Service, Rockford is off to the 6th coldest start on record. Here's the data from the NWS:

COLDEST FIRST 3 WEEKS OF NOVEMBER IN ROCKFORD
RANK    AVG. TEMP (F)    YEAR
1                   30.2                  1951
2                   30.4                  1959
3                   30.9                  1976
4                   31.6                  1995
5                   32.1                  1996

8                   33.3                  1986
9                   33.6                  1997

It's actually even worse in Chicago where the city experienced the second-coldest start to November ever.

Additionally, back on November 21, Rockford officially dipped to a low of 5 degrees. That's the coldest temperature this early in the season since a low of 3 above was recorded on November 13, 1986.

And, as you've no doubt heard, snow is on the way today. We're certainly getting our early dose of winter!
