If you were up late last night (maybe going over what you'd just witnessed during the Super Bowl), and happened to be glancing skyward, you got to see something pretty spectacular.

Last night, or to be precise, early this morning, around 1am, a dashboard camera in a Lisle, Illinois police squad car picked this up:

Sightings began to pour into radio and TV stations all over our region. The National Weather Service also got reports in Milwaukee of sonic booms across the city. Witnesses filed reports from all over Illinois too, going as far south as Decatur. Calls were made from Iowa and Indiana as well.

The National Weather Service says the event was unusual for our area. In Russia, however, this sort of thing happens all the time:
