Not content with the switch from frozen to fresh beef, McDonald's is sinking some serious money into a modernization effort.

Part of the update plan by McDonald's includes their franchisees kicking in about $6 billion to completely update and upgrade most of McDonald's restaurants in the United States.

Here in Illinois, McDonald's announced that they're spending roughly $317 million to get their stores up-to-speed.

From the Chicago Tribune:

The new-look McDonald’s will feature amenities such as modernized dining rooms, refreshed exteriors, digital self-order kiosks, remodeled counters and new designated parking spots for mobile order curbside pickup. McDonald’s has 663 restaurants in Illinois, more than 90 percent of which are franchise-owned, spokeswoman Anne Christensen said. Newer restaurants are less likely to undergo significant remodeling, she said.
