It's like something out of a horror movie. Unlike most horror movies though, the victim (or, would-be victim) got away. Barely.

According to The Daily Mail,

A young swimmer in Sian Ka'an, Mexico must be thanking his lucky stars after quick-thinking onlookers narrowly managed to rescue him from the jaws of a huge crocodile.

There's your problem. Horror movies don't often feature helpful onlookers.

Thankfully, a panicked onlooker standing on a nearby bridge hurled an object at the creature, stopping the giant reptile's pursuit.

Manuel Cerrara, who filmed the terrifying footage, was quoted by Nine News saying the boy was lucky the croc is fed regularly by tourists and fishermen.

There might be a reason this croc was looking for a meal in that particular spot...

Unfortunately, that crocodile already associated us with food and as the video shows the boy was saved because the crocodile is well fed and chased at a pace that allowed him to reach the shore," Mr Cerrara said.

Locals consider the water too dangerous to swim in.

Let's have a look at what would have ruined most people's vacations:

I'd think about a thank-you note to the person who tossed the distraction at the croc.
