First and foremost let me say this, nearly all of the chemicals that I use are plant derived. They are harmless to adults, kids, and pets. My method of cleaning begins like the other guys. My first step is also to pre spray. However my pre spray can be a little more involved. Most companies, especially the big ones, use one pre spray for everything. That’s like being a plumber and having one wrench, you will eventually need more tools. In my bag of tricks I have about 7 different pre sprays. The dirt I’m working with and the type of carpet I’m cleaning will determine what pre spray I use. For example, I’ll use something different for wool as I would for nylon. I’ll use something different on a commercial carpet in a dentist office as I would in a restaurant. Remember the pH scale from school? That comes into play a lot in carpet cleaning. I have to use a different pre spray when I’m dealing with pet urine (lower pH) than when I’m dealing with spots and spills in a residential living room (higher pH).

When it comes to step two, this is where I differ in a major way. I don’t run hoses back and forth to a van. Why? Because I have nothing to extract. Remember what I said about extraction is mostly an attempt to rinse the solution from the carpet the technician put there? My pre sprays do not need to be rinsed out. They are designed to remain in the carpet and act as a barrier between your carpet and dirt.

So after I pre spray I bring in my huge machine that does all of the work. It has 3 scrubbing heads on the bottom of the machine that are designed to scrub the carpet. I’ve found over the many years doing this that carpet responds better to agitation. Carpet likes to be scrubbed and that’s what I do, I scrub the heck out of it.

Also, have you ever wondered why after having your carpet hot water extracted it’s so wet? You think that’s 100% clean water sitting there? You think it’s possible to remove 100% of all the dirt that’s in your carpet? Well it’s not. So what happens to the dirt the technician wasn’t able to fully extract? The answer is nothing, it just sits there in your carpet. The chemicals I use don’t allow the dirt I miss to just sit there. My chemicals attach to the dirt and encapsulate it (holds onto it at a microscopic level) until the next time you vacuum. Which means any dirt I miss will be removed the next time you vacuum.

Bottom line, your carpet gets cleaner, dries faster, and stays cleaner longer.
