Good news for all Illinois teachers out there (and possibly our next teacher of the week). According to WalletHub, Illinois is ranked #4 in the country for best states for teachers. Number four!!! The top 5 were as follows -

  1. New York
  2. Connecticut
  3. Minnesota
  4. Illinois
  5. North Dakota

But the good news doesn't stop there. Illinois was also ranked second for 'opportunity and competition rank' category.  On top of that, they made the top 5 for highest annual salary.

The list is based on a lot of different elements, WalletHub explains-

"To help America’s educators find the best opportunities and teaching environments, WalletHub compared the 50 states and the District of Columbia based on 22 key indicators of teacher-friendliness. Our data set ranges from teachers’ income growth potential to pupil-teacher ratio to teacher safety."

In order to determine 'teacher friendliness' in states, they compared two key aspects of teaching, 'opportunity & competition' and 'academic & work environment.' Illinois ranked #2 in 'opportunity and competition', but ranked #21 for 'academic & work environment.'  And 21 is by no means bad, it's better than half of the country.
