There's bad news for Fighting Illini fans hoping for an NCAA Tournament berth in this upcoming season. And, of course, even worse news for the player himself.

Fighting Illini point guard Tracy Abrams missed all of last season with a torn ACL. Now Abrams is expected to miss his second consecutive year of basketball after tearing the achilles tendon in his left foot during practice Monday.

Abrams averaged 10.7 points for the Illini in 2013-14. He was expected to be the starting point guard for John Groce's team this upcoming season.

Here's Groce discussing the injury:

Right now it appears junior Jaylon Tate would enter the season as starting point guard. But there's really not a lot of depth or experience on the roster to make for Abrams loss.

On the bright side, Fighting Illini football is only about a month away!
