(Warning: Graphic Video)

The term "hero" is sometimes overused, misused, or not applicable. However, as you'll see in the video, a hero is exactly what Ivan Pitukh, a 30 year old Ukrainian man, turned out to be.

Ivan happened to be in the right place at the right time when he saw a little boy attempting to run across a busy highway. Although the video is horrifying, the good news is that both Ivan and the unnamed toddler miraculously escaped the incident with only a few bruises:

(Again, this video is graphic)

Some details, courtesy of The Mirror:

In the grainy footage, the child waits for one car to speed past before setting off across the busy carriageway. A man stood behind a fence immediately clocks the child and frantically chases him, attempting to push him out of the way of an oncoming car. Distressingly, the pair are both hit by the fast-moving vehicle and launched into a ditch at the side of the road. Horrified onlookers who had witnessed the scene rush over to the man and the child.

Ivan and the boy were then transported to a local hospital, checked over, and released. Ivan, who was later interviewed by local media, explained his thought process...or lack thereof:

"I didn't think about the consequences at the moment, I simply did the right thing.

"There was no time to think if I would manage to save the kid or not, but leaving him was not an option.

"It wasn't the driver's fault. The boy appeared on the road unexpectedly and there was nothing he could do."

As I said earlier, the word "hero" gets used too often. Not this time.
