Friday we all became aware of a terrible house fire that claimed the life of Leaf River firefighter, Gregory Wood.

As the family and community mourns their loss, here is how you can help them in their time of need.

The Wood family lost not only their son in the fire Friday morning, but all of their possessions too. If you would like to help them with material goods, WTVO reports that both the Leaf River Community Closet and the Leaf River Fire Department are serving as the drop off sites to collect clothing for the family.

To find out the sizes or what other material goods may be needed call the Leaf River Community Closet at  815-213-8256 . They are located at 605 Main St., Leaf River, IL. or to drop off items with the Leaf River Fire Department, go to 205 W. 3rd Street, Leaf River, IL.

The Forest City Riders Motorcylce Club had a fundraisers scheduled for this week to raise funds for the fire department, but once they heard the news of the fire and the passing of Gregory Wood they decided to expand their fundraising to include helping the his family during this sad and stressful time.

Also, a memorial fund has been set up  for Gregory Wood at the German American State Bank in German Valley to accept monetary funds. Their address is 100 Church Street German Valley or call for information at 815-362-2310.
