At this point, I think we can say a parvovirus epidemic has hit Rockford.

Parvovirus is actually pretty common in our environment and dogs are exposed to it all the time, but the problem comes when a dog is not vaccinated against it.

Parvo spreads easily, and kills dogs fast. I never realized how fast though until I saw this post for Rockford's C.A.R.E. for P.E.T.S. and immediately started cry:

Since the beginning of August, C.A.R.E. for P.E.T.S., a progressive 501c3 shelter intervention organization partnered with Winnebago County Animal Services, has dealt with seven cases of Parvo, with four lives already lost. The organization has now switched their focus to stopping the parvo epidemic in Winnebago County, and it is a COSTLY feat.

C.A.R.E. for P.E.T.S. has started a GoFundMe campaign to help make a dent in their mounting vet bills, and PLEASE consider making a donation today so we don't have to read any more sad stories like this...my heart cannot take it.
