A standoff between Rockford police and an armed man holed up in a health clinic ended peacefully Monday with the man's surrender.

According to a press release, the incident began at about 2:15 p.m., when officers responded to Crusader Community Health Clinic at 1100 Broadway for a report of a man with a gun inside the building and shots fired. Upon arrival, officers immediately entered the building and located the armed suspect, identified as 36-year-old Steven Dummer of Rochelle, in a second floor waiting room threatening suicide.

The officers secured the immediate area and began negotiation with Dummer.  As other officers arrived to assist, they secured the exterior of the building and conducted an evacuation. Rockford Police negotiators responded and negotiated with Dummer for about four hours before he surrendered to officers without further incident.

Dummer was taken to the hospital where he was medically cleared before being transported to the Winnebago County Jail and held in lieu of a $100,000 bond. He's facing charges of Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm and Aggravated Unlawful Use of Weapons.

Officials say no one was injured.
