Remember when Taco Bell was voted as "Best Mexican Restaurant" in Rockford? Well, it looks like we get the last laugh because new a survey just proved we're not alone.

Over a decade ago someone thought it would be a good idea to include a fast food chain as a nominee in a seemingly local "best of" contest. Even more, said fast food chain (Taco Bell) won in the "best Mexican restaurant" category. Guess what? Kevin Haas' readers poll may have been way ahead of the curve...

Taco Bell was just awarded Best Mexican Restaurant in the entire continental United States; over 77,000 people voted and a majority agreed with Rockford. Here's more from The Harris Poll...

The 2018 Harris Poll EquiTrend Study is based on a sample of 77,031 U.S. consumers ages 15 and over surveyed online, in English, between January 3 and February 15, 2018.

The after-hours crowd is still probably Taco Bell's biggest customer base, but the company has grown its popularity through creative ads like the Nacho Fries conspiracy theory movie trailers starring Josh Duhamel and a strong social media presence.

Whatever the case may be, for everyone on Reddit (and even Tosh.0) that mocked Screw City residents for our love of chalupas, looks like you're all just a bunch of followers.
