More restaurants, more shops, more apartments. Sounds nice but, is it worth the risk? Another half-filled development that may wind up vacant.

Although we already have a ton, we could be getting quite a few more. Along with over 200 new living spaces being constructed as well, according to wifr.com. This is great news if your looking for a job, another place to shop or a new pad to call home.

Does Rockford Really Need This New Construction Development?

A permit has been approved to build 3 four-story buildings on Rockford's west side in the location of the old Essex building. The new upscaled housing would be geared mainly towards students of the University of Illinois College of Medicine in Rockford.

There are some concerns, however, that the plan would fail. If it succeeds, it could be a good economic stimulant for the city. If it fails, which has happened in Rockford more times than can be counted, it could just add to the number of vacant buildings already standing in Rockford.

The city council will take a vote next week on whether to allow the plan to go through, or not.
