DeKalb County Board to Vote on Tribal Bingo Hall Proposal

DEKALB, Ill. (AP) — DeKalb County Board members are to vote on a resolution supporting efforts for a Native American tribe to open a 24-hour electronic bingo operation.

The (DeKalb) Daily Chronicle reports that the board will consider the Prairie Potawatomi Nation's request Wednesday evening. The tribe is asking board members to support their efforts to have federal officials hold 129 acres of its land in trust to build the bingo hall near the small northern Illinois village of Shabbona.

Tribal leaders have said the bingo hall would generate about $12 million for the local economy and create about 400 jobs.

An intergovernmental agreement between the county and tribe means the county would receive the greater of $800,000 or 2.5 percent of the casino's net annual profits.
