First it was MC Sports in Rockford. Now, another chain store in the stateline could be in trouble.

Gander Mountain, which is based in Minneapolis, Minnesota, could be filing for bankruptcy soon. The Star Tribune, which is the local newspaper of the twin cities, says that the company is in the process of getting ready to file.

The main reason for the potential bankruptcy is the downturn of the outdoor and sporting goods industry. One of the main competitors of Gander Mountain is Bass Pro Shops. They just recently purchased another outdoor retailer Cabela's. Then there is the closing of MC Sporting Goods stores around the midwest. Another sporting goods chain, Sports Authority, recently filed for bankruptcy and closed all of its stores.

What will happen to the four Gander Mountain stores that are located around the area, including the McFarland Road store? As of now, the stores are still open. According to the report "The Gander Mountain website is currently advertising 15 percent off all regular-priced items in store and online, an unusual promotion for the sporting goods retailer."

This could be a huge blow to people who like to participate in outdoor activities, including hunting and fishing. The choices to buy those items are few and far between.
