Summer is about to officially announce its arrival with temperatures easily hitting the 90 degree mark later this week.

These high temperatures can be very dangerous to anyone, especially the elderly, who do not have access to air conditioning.

Keep Cool Illinois informs Illinois residents, including the elderly, families with small children and persons with disabilities, how to prevent heat-related health problems, reduce their utility bills and participate in summer activities safely.

The two closest cooling facilities to the Rockford area are at the Belvidere Toll Oasis (all Illinois Toll Oases are open 24/7) and the Winnebago County Department of Human Services at 1111 North Avon St.
