If the Cub bats don't come to life next season there will be a new scapegoat to blame in the clubhouse.

Chili Davis is out and former Texas Rangers hitting coach Anthony Iapoce will be taking the same position with the Cubs.

I've for a while thought that the position of hitting coach on the major league level had more to do with fit than expertise. Was Chili Davis a bad hitting coach? Not necessarily. He just didn't fit with either the Cubs clubhouse or the team's philosophy, possibly both.

The fact that Iapoce spent time with some of the Cubs current stars at the minor league level means that there might be a level of comfort between the hitting coach and the players that might not have been there before.

Only time will tell if this new addition to the team will result in a longer playoff run in 2019.
