After two shootings in one month, increased security measures have been put into place at CherryVale Mall.

According to WIFR, Cherry Valley village board "approved a contract agreement with the mall that allows the police department to enforce any Illinois traffic laws on mall property. The village hopes the additional police presence will continue to help make the mall feel safe."

WIFR also mentions, on private property, there are only four traffic offenses that are enforceable, DUI, reckless driving, and handicap violations.

The new agreement between the mall and the Cherry Valley Police Department means you can get pulled over for any traffic offense anywhere on CherryVale Mall property.

This is a good thing for a couple of reasons. First, the obviously improved security aspect and second, it seems almost no one pays attention to the stop signs around mall property. The simple threat of a traffic stop should cut down on accidents and near misses that occur at CherryVale Mall.
