Winter is coming, and sadly that's not a Game of Thrones reference as much as it's just the reality.

Worse yet, it appears snow may pop up in the Rockford area before Halloween.

With rain and snow showers predicted for the first few weeks in November, it's not out of the realm of possibility that we could see some white stuff on the ground on or around Halloween.

That is, if you believe what the Old Farmer's Almanac is saying regarding winter in the Midwest.

Late December, early and late January, mid-February and early March are highlighted as other times where we will receive more than normal snow fall.

So what does that mean for us? If anything, you have to consider the Old Farmer's Almanac "bases its long-range forecasts on an almost 200 century-old formula." So I guess it means buckle up, it's going to be a long winter.
