I just finished chatting with my friend Jennifer Bowman of the Rock River Valley Blood Center. Jen pointed out to me (so I'll share with you) that as Memorial Day Weekend is the unofficial start to the summer season, it's also the beginning of a time period that has the largest need of blood donations.

With warmer weather, more people are outside. With more people outside, there are lots more outdoor activities, and with more outdoor activities comes more accidents and injuries. That's where the Rock River Valley Blood Center comes in.

The Rock River Valley Blood Center serves as a centralized, community blood center and is the sole provider of blood products and services to Beloit Health System, Edgerton Hospital and Health Services, FHN, OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center, Rochelle Community Hospital, Rockford Health System, SwedishAmerican Health System and SwedishAmerican Medical Center—Belvidere.

So, as they do each year around this time, The Rock River Valley Blood Center is asking healthy individuals to donate blood or platelets either before or after the Memorial Day weekend. Due to slow donor traffic, there is a great need for All Blood Types and Platelets. Donors can donate at any of RRVBC’s four locations or at a mobile blood drive. For a detailed list of blood drives and donor center hours and locations, please visit www.rrvbc.org.

You really can make a difference. Where else could you go, or what else could you do that could save 3 lives in 1 hour?
