ROCKTON - Dan McLarty, the personal trainer and basketball skills coach, had to handle about as tragic a situation as you can in early April.

On April 7, three men were shot and killed on a party bus in Rockford. One of the victims, Sean Anderson, was father and step-father to two promising basketball players. Both were working out at McLarty's gym in Rockton when their grandfather received notification that their father was dead.

McLarty, who appeared on the Stateline Sports Hour earlier this year, posted the exchange on his Facebook page. The grandfather told him, "I just got off the phone with my daughter, and the boys father (Sean Anderson) was found dead. I don't know how we’re gonna tell them, but right after this session me and their Mom are gonna have to let them know."

McLarty said the look on the man's face is one he'll never forget.

McLarty and the basketball community want to ease a little bit of the pain by raising money to offset funeral costs. He said anyone can stop by his gym and add money to a jar specifically set aside for Anderson's family. McLarty's gym is located at 210 W. Chapel St., Rockton.
