Riley O'Neil

I consider myself lucky to have been born and raised right here in the Rock River Valley, a place that my family and my wife Amy's family have called home for generations. I was first hired at WROK in 1983, and except for a short departure, I've spent my entire career right here in Rockford. Halloween of 2016 marked my 15th anniversary of hosting the WROK Morning Show, making me the longest-serving morning show host in the station's nearly 100-year history. Amy and I have been happily married for 25 years, with two (now grown) children, Spencer (who works for a major cruise company), and Molly (a student at Rock Valley College who also dazzles with service at a popular local restaurant). I'm luckier than I ever thought possible. When I'm not here at the station, I can usually be found at one of Rockford's many great, local events, either as host/master of ceremonies, or as an attendee. If we should meet, feel free to buy me 1 to 7 drinks.

Eight Illinois Restaurants Featured on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives

There are times when it seems that Guy Fieri's voice is heard more often in my house than mine is. That's cool with me, as we are unabashed "Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives" fans, and have been since the show came along in 2007. If you're a fan too, you may or may not know that there have been multiple Illinois restaurants featured on the show.

These Are The Most Stolen Vehicles in Illinois

Having been the victim of a car theft myself, I can tell you that it's a pretty unpleasant experience (as you might have already guessed). Luckily, no one was threatened or hurt--although I never saw my car or the stuff in it ever again. Maybe I should have gone with a less theft-inviting model.

Illinois’ Taxes Are Going Up, But Our Energy Costs Are Lower Than Most States

I have been giving myself too much credit. I thought, being the dad in my household, that my constant demands that my family "turn off that light if you're not in the room," or "close that door, I'm not heating/cooling the outside," or the classic "if you're that cold, put on a sweater" were actually keeping our energy bills lower. It turns out that it is because Illinois is one of America's least energy expensive states.
