Getting smarter in Chicago has just gotten a lot cheaper.

Last week Shedd Aquarium announced that general admission to the aquarium would be free for Illinois residents in the month of September. The Museum of Science and Industry just announced that they will be doing the same thing.

Visitors who show proof of residency will gain free WEEKDAY admission to the museum for the month of September.

The free admission does not include Omnimax movies or temporary exhibits but if you've ever been there you know there's still plenty to do.

Tickets for tours of the U-505 submarine or the "Brick by Brick" Lego exhbit will still be $12 to partake in but you can still have a great time without doing those things.

So take a Friday off. Get the kids out of school and do the 1-2 punch of Shedd and The Museum of Science and Industry. The kids will probably learn more and as a bonus should be tired once you get home.
