• A former McHenry County sheriff's deputy who investigated child pornography cases has been sentenced in Rockford to 50 years in federal prison for sex crimes against a child. Thirty-nine-year-old Gregory Pyle admitted taking a boy across state lines to have sex and post the photos online. He was charged in 2012.
  • People from outside of Illinois are among hundreds flocking to a prison hiring fair in Thomson. Federal officials are hosting the three-day event to fill jobs at the prison the state of Illinois never opened and then sold to the federal government. The fair ends Thursday.
  • A purported gang member has been sentenced to 60 years in prison in connection with a deadly shooting at a Belvidere gas station. Investigators say 19-year old Marco Hernandez and another gang member, Deontae Murray, shot and killed 33-year-old Richard Herman at a Belvidere Shell station in April of last year. Officials say the shooting was gang related.
  • A Janesville woman has been arrested for her 5th drunk driving offense after police say she backed into a parked vehicle right in front of police officers. 47-year-old Michelle Heerey's ordeal began as a police call for a disturbance early Wednesday morning. As police arrived, they saw a car attempting to exit an apartment complex's parking lot.  They requested she stop, but instead. they say Heerey backed into a parked vehicle.
  • FBI agents and Freeport Police officers search for evidence in connection with the murder a Freeport man. 34-year old Walter Scott was killed in September of 2013, just days after receiving death threats on a social media website. Investigators are searching for evidence of the Scott murder in the Pecatonica river at the Hancock Avenue Bridge.  Our partners at Eyewitness News have learned that the river search will likely last all week.
  • Illinois farm deaths are up for the last calendar year. Farm deaths were down last year after record drought. However, according to Country Financial the most recent 12 month period saw the number go up to 21, more in line with most years.
  • The Kane County Health Department says it has diagnosed its first human West Nile virus case. Officials say the virus was confirmed this week in a 33-year-old Geneva man. Department officials are urging residents to monitor for the illness, which is spread by mosquitoes.
  • New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie is traveling to Wisconsin to campaign for fellow Republican Gov. Scott Walker later this month. A spokesman for the Republican Governors Association confirmed Wednesday that Christie was coming on Sept. 29, but said details of the visit are still being worked out.
  •  Mayors from municipalities around the Great Lakes are to meet in Chicago next week about a month after Lake Erie algae contaminated water in Ohio. Toxins fouled water for 400,000 people in the Toledo area last month, leaving some without clean tap water for two days.
