• Bloom Elementary School in Rockford will reopen tomorrow after a water leak that closed the school for the past two days has been repaired. Maintenance staff performed additional work to remedy the problem today.
  • The Illinois State Police and local law enforcements agencies statewide will be stepping up their patrols during this Halloween Weekend. Police will be on the lookout for drunk and unbuckled drivers. IDOT officials say in previous years, 22 percent of driving fatalities between October 31 at midnight through November 1 at 6am involved drunk drivers.
  • Senator Dick Durbin and Republican challenger Jim Oberweis will be participating in their second televised debate. The two candidates will take questions from Twitter. A Chicago public television station is hosting the hour-long event tonight.
  • President Barack Obama rallied Democrats in Wisconsin in support of governor Scott Walker’s challenger, Mary Burke. Obama calls Burke "an honest person," but adds that there are also policy reasons to vote for her. A new poll has Walker up 7 points among key voters.
  • The Illinois Tollway has opened three lanes of roadway in each direction between Rockford and Elgin as part of a $2.5 billion rebuilding project. Officials say the Jane Addams Memorial Tollway will be a state-of-the-art road from Interstate 294 to Interstate 39. The first phase of the project is near completion and a ribbon cutting ceremony took place yesterday.
  • Dixon Police have identified the suspect who left a threatening message toward teachers at Madison Middle School.The5th grade student admitted to police she is responsible for the writings. Tuesday's threat was the second one drawn onto a wall at the school in the last two weeks.
  • Rockford residents who are caught blowing leaves onto the streets could face a hefty fine. $750 is the current fine and city officials say it is imperative for residents to be responsible, to keep the sewer inlets unclogged and to prevent street flooding.
  • Rockford Police have announced that five people were arrested in a prostitution sting on Sunday. All the arrests happened in District 2 on the near east side which includes the Broadway Ave. area. Police say five were arrested, and three vehicles impounded.
  • No decisions have been made for an Illinois Asian Carm-processing plant's relocation. The city of Grafton has given the company an ultimatum to stop emitting rotten odors or to shut down. The multi-million-dollar plant opened in April, turning the invasive species into dehydrated meal and fish oil.
