• A Stateline area man who is now paralyzed from a car accident that he allegedly caused in March, which killed his friend, is ready to face the police. Drakkar Malone stated his plan to turn himself in to police, following treatment. He was involved in a high speed pursuit with police in Rockford and crashed his vehicle. His family maintains their son's innocence. Malone has been charged with reckless homicide and two charges of aggravated DUI. If convicted he could spend up to 19 years in prison.
  • A home on the Rockford’s Southeast side goes up in flames. The fire broke out around 12:45 this morning at 1700 block Sandy Hollow Road.  Flames were shooting out of the house from the second floor.  The vacant house became fully engulfed. Firefighters were able to put it out, but the fire caused an estimated $75,000 in damage.  No word yet on the cause.
  •  Rockford city officials condemned the parking deck that suffered damage yesterday, which also damaged vehicles.  A large hole now exists in the center of the Water Street parking deck after an 18-inch-by-12-foot block of cement and metal wiring collapsed Tuesday. Drivers who own parking permits for the deck have been relocated to the Rockford Register Star parking lot.  City officials blamed the age of the deck, which is 35 years-old.
  • An all-night standoff in a suburb south of Chicago is over. Authorities say the last four hostages at a home in Harvey have been freed and two men are in custody. Eight people were taken hostage yesterday after police officers responding to a report of a burglary were wounded in a shootout. The officers are OK.
  • Illinois' gubernatorial candidates will appear together for at least three traditional debates before November. They are Oct. 9, Oct. 14, and another in Chicago later in October. The two candidates have continued to bicker over additional dates.
  • Winnebago County Sheriff's Department investigators say they can find no information linking accused double-murderer Terence Doddy to the death of a high school friend. The investigation into the death of 15-year-old Stephanie Johnston in 1993 was re-opened after Doddy's arrest for two recent murders. Doddy and Johnston had reportedly dated for a short time, and friends had for a long time suspected that he had something to do with her death, but the cause of her death was found to be drowning.
