• One case of the measles has been confirmed in Illinois, according to the Illinois Department of Public Health. Officials say that a suburban Cook County resident became ill in mid-January and test results were positive for the measles. Only ten cases in Illinois have been reported in the past 5 years.
  • The United Way of the Rock River Valley has received a large amount of money from a local organization. Employees of the Chrysler Fiat Plant donated "special event" dollars during their annual United Way Pledge Campaign. The check was for more than $300,000.
  • Sycamore's penny parking meters are facing an uncertain future, because the city is running out of timers to fix them. Officials say the decades-old meters require timers from a company that no longer makes them. Sycamore is one of the few communities in the country still using penny parking meters. City officials hope somebody has timers that fit the more than 300 meters that still operate.
  • For the first time in several weeks, the price of gas in the Rockford area has gone up. Average gas prices in the Rockford area rose over 8 cents a gallon in the past week to around $1.97. It's still more than $1.30 a gallon cheaper than at the same time a year ago. Gas Buddy reports that refineries are processing less crude oil.
  • There's a renewed push to bring a casino to the Beloit area. Ho-Chunk Nation leaders want to establish an off-reservation casino in the city. This comes after Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker rejected a casino project in Kenosha. City leaders believe approval is likely, because it could solve the economic struggles in the Beloit area.
  •  The Ogle County Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's help in solving a series of car break-ins at Stillman Valley High School Saturday night.  The department was called to the school just before 9, to find the windows of seven vehicles smashed at the school and the car burglarized. One victim who contacted our partners at 'Eyewitness News' says they believed the break-ins were targeted certain vehicles were purses and other items of value were inside. Anyone with information is urged to call the Ogle County Sheriff's Office.
  • Unexpected costs during the restoration of a McHenry County courthouse have pushed the total price tag for the project to more than $1 million. The restoration of the roof and dome at the Old Courthouse in Woodstock originally was expected to cost about $775,000. Officials say the added cost was required to ensure the courthouse lasts for years.
