• Charges have been filed in the death of a Rockford woman. 42-year-old Karen Williams died from her injuries following an August 20th incident in which a car with three suspects crashed into her vehicle near Cherry Valley. The crash was preceded by a long distance high speed police pursuit which started in Belvidere. Bryant Locke was charged with first degree murder, aggravating fleeing to alude, and aggravated discharge of a firearm. Additionally, D'Angelo Brooks and Rolando Fort were both charged with aggravated discharge of a firearm.
  • One man is in a Rockford hospital fighting for his life after a serious accident last night in Roscoe. A driver of a van pulled out in front of another car and was t-boned. He was taken out of the car and flown to a local hospital in critical condition. The other driver was also taken to a local hospital, but didn’t have life-threatening injuries. Neither driver has been identified.
  • Yet another threat has been found at Reagan Middle School in Dixon. Authorities say writing was found on a wall in the girl’s bathroom yesterday, stating something will take place today. This is now the third threat issued against the Dixon School in the past two weeks. Dixon Police identified the suspect from the previous threats earlier this week, but don’t believe the most recent one is related.
  • Getting to Rockford should be easier now that a portion of construction on I-90 has been completed. The Rockford Area Convention and Visitor’s Bureau believes more people could come to town for weekend overnight stays and local attractions and restaurants. IDOT says it will take 35 fewer minutes to get from Chicago to Rockford after lanes reopened on I-90. But they’re not clear when the speed limit will be raised back to 65 mph.
  • Republican candidate for Governor, Bruce Rauner says women will decide the close race between him and Democratic Gov. Pat Quinn. Rauner and his wife Diana appeared at a Chicago event today to encourage residents to get out and vote next Tuesday. Polls indicate the race is a dead heat going into election day.
  • Aspiring medical marijuana patients whose last names start with M through Z can soon apply to the Illinois Department of Public Health for a registry card. The department begins accepting applications from that group starting Saturday. Illinois has been processing paperwork from thousands of applicants whose last names begin with A through L.
  • The Democratic candidate for Wisconsin governor is rejecting a claim by the former president of Trek Bicycles that she was fired from her job at the family company. Mary Burke calls the claim "character assassination" just days before voters choose in the race between her and Republican Governor Scott Walker. Former Trek president Tom Albers says Burke's brother, John, fired her because her role as head of overseas operations "just didn't work out." Both Mary Burke and her brother John denied the claim.
