• Rockford University is reporting the highest enrollment of full-time undergraduate students in 20 years. 878 students were enrolled for the fall semester, which is up nearly 9 percent from last year and also marks the largest first-year class in a decade with 146 students. Surveys are indicating that students are more satisfied with aspects like academic support and campus life.
  • A Sycamore woman is facing attempted first degree murder charges for allegedly stabbing another woman in the neck. DeKalb Police say 41-year-old Nicholle Martinez attacked the woman around 4pm on Saturday in the parking lot of her apartment complex in the 1300 block of Sycamore Road. Investigators say a witness intervened as Martinez was hitting and stabbing the victim. The victim is expected to recover.
  • Rockford Police are looking for a man on the run. An arrest warrant has been issued against 20 year-old Michael Rankins.  Investigators say he is behind an armed robbery near the Mobil Gas Station in the 6200 block of N. 2nd Street and that he and a second suspect used a gun to steal a cell phone from a citizen on the street. Rankins is six feet tall and weighs 165 pounds. Anyone with information should call the Rockford Police Department.
  • Lawyers for former Dixon comptroller Rita Crundwell are back in federal court today. Crundwell was convicted and sent to prison for stealing $54 million. She is arguing that her pension be excluded from the $44 million she's been ordered to re-pay the city.
  • Illinois has sent out about a dozen approval letters to people who want to use marijuana legally to ease the symptoms of their medical conditions. State health officials say thousands of people whose names start with the letters A through L have applied. Others may start applying in November.
  • Kendall County authorities say a pilot is dead after a small plane crashed. The sheriff's office says the plane went down Sunday night in unincorporated Plano. Firefighters found the male pilot dead among the plane's debris. The Federal Aviation Administration and Illinois State Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
  • At least 300 more flights have been canceled today at O’Hare Airport in Chicago and there are delays of more than a half hour at Midway. Federal officials say a suburban control center where a worker started a fire on Friday won’t be fully re-opened for more than two weeks.
