• Businesses wanting to grow or sell medical marijuana in Illinois have until three o'clock today to get their applications in to state agencies. Illinois expects to grant up to 21 permits for cultivation centers and up to 60 permits for dispensaries.
  • Governor Pat Quinn was at Nothern Illinois University to break ground on the expansion of NIU’s Steven’s Hall. The $27.4 million expansion and renovation will prove improved learning facilities for current students. The project is funded through the governor’s Illinois Jobs Now capital construction program. Hundreds of local jobs will be created during this 33,000 square foot addition to the building.
  • A Janesville man is accused of holding two women he was dating at gunpoint and firing his gun at one of them. Police say the 37-year-old man was arrested last night. When officers arrived, they learned the intruders were two women who had come to confront the man. Police say the man ordered both to the ground and fired his handgun at one of them.
  • An Ogle County woman is dead after a drunk driver veered off the road near the Ogle and Winnebago County line. Officials say the crash happened just before midnight on Saturday on Severson Road near Weldon Road. Investigators say the SUV veered off into a ditch and hit a tree, killing 39-year old passenger Jody Young.  The driver of the SUV, 32-year-old Scott Young of Lindenwood, was taken to the hospital along with two other passengers. Young is charged with DUI and improper lane usage.
  •  A motorcycle accident in Dekalb county leaves one person dead and another critically injured. 69-year-old Paula Dorsen was killed in the crash.  It happened around 7:30pm on W. County Line Rd. Investigators say Dorsen's husband, 45 year-old Jeffrey Dorsen, was going around a curve when he lost control.  Paula Dorsen died at the scene.  Jeffrey Dorsen was airlifted to St. Anthony Medical Center in Rockford.
  •  A Wisconsin man has been arrested for his 5th drunk driving offense. Around 12:30 Saturday morning Rock County Sheriff’s police found 48-year old Michael Drought passed out on the wheel of his car. Officers smelled alcohol on him, and after a field sobriety test they arrested drought. He remains in the Rock County Jail.
