• Members of the Winnebago County Board are not in favor of the proposed 70 unit public housing project that the Rockford Housing Authority plans to build on South New Towne Drive. They approved a resolution against the proposal during a county board meeting. Some resident's on Rockford’s eastside are threatening to move if the public housing project is built. They fear it will bring crime to the area.
  • The Beloit Police Department has determined that three shootings in their community are connected to the five people who led area police on a high speed chase Thursday night.   Cole G. Page of Beloit, Mark L. Kelly of Woodstock, and Savanna R. Denton of Rockton, plus two juveniles from Rockford, are under arrest on charges stemming from the shootings and the police chase.  A juvenile involved in one of those shootings has been upgraded from critical to stable condition, and is expected to survive.
  • Illinois legislative leaders say they're still open to negotiating with Gov. Bruce Rauner over the 2016 budget and Rauner's pro-business legislative agenda. But they say they won't reach a deal before the legislative session ends Sunday.  The Republican governor met Friday with Democratic Senate President John Cullerton and House Speaker Michael Madigan and GOP leaders Sen. Christine Radogno and Rep. Jim Durkin.  Democrats want Rauner to approve new revenue to help balance their proposed 2016 budget. The $36.3 billion plan is more than $3 billion short of anticipated revenues.
  • Members of the Rockford Police Narcotics Unit busted a Rockford man for peddling cocaine.  Terrance Walton was arrested after police raided his house on Michigan Avenue.  He was charged with possession with intent to deliver.
  • As school lets out…the Illinois state board of education is reminding families about the summer meals program. More than 23-hundred sites are expected to serve free meals to children and teens around the state this summer. Program coordinator Amy Bianco says they don’t want students going hungry when they aren’t in school. Offerings depend on each site but often include breakfast, lunch and dinner. Some are only open to low income families…but others are available to all children in the area. You don’t have to sign up ahead of time.   • A Wisconsin cheesemaker is debuting a 20-year-old cheddar this week that's short in supply and big on price.  The cheddar from Hook's Cheese Co. of Mineral Point goes on sale today for $209 a pound.  Most of the 450-pound supply is already spoken for, with orders coming in after the planned sale went public earlier this year.
