• A Stateline area school district is facing the prospect of a teachers strike in a few weeks. Belvidere teachers have filed a strike notice but are still negotiating with the school board. They have bargaining sessions scheduled next week and in earlier October.
  • The Rockford narcotics has made two arrests in connection with a marijuana selling operation. The unit received information that a Rockford drug dealer was involved in selling marijuana from his detached garage in the 100 block of North Henrietta. The investigation was ongoing and it was discovered that six adult males were inside the garage, including 65-year old Norman Braddix JR. 95 grams of packaged-for sale marijuana was seized. Braddix and another individual were arrested.
  •  Corn growers are warning drivers to watch out for farm machinery as the harvest season approaches. The Wisconsin Corn Growers Association says motorists can expect to see more farm equipment on the roads in the coming weeks. The group says farmers should have the proper slow-moving vehicle signs on their equipment as well as additional lighting and reflective tape.
  • Farming claimed the lives of 21 people in Illinois from July 2013 through June of  this year, nearly double the number of deaths during the same period a year earlier. This is according to Country Financial. The statistics have some calling for more efforts to reduce the injury and fatality rates.
  • After years of putting Rockford down, Forbes is showing the stateline city a little love. Forbes ranked Rockford the 6th best city to "Make Your Mark", meaning enterprising people here have a better shot at being successful in their career goals. The article cites Rockford's shift to advanced manufacturing in aerospace, crediting companies like UTC and Woodward.
  • The Freeport Police Dept. confirms to our partners at Eyewitness News that they've found several "items of interest" in the Pecatonica River in connection with the ongoing search for the September 25th  murder of Walter Scot.  The evidence is being sent to the Illinois State Police Crime Lab in Rockford for analysis. Investigators say the examining the evidence could take several weeks.  They are not releasing at this time what they found.
