Drivers in Illinois are paying a little less at the pump this month.

The current price for a gallon of regular unleaded is an average of $2.35. That price reflects a drop of $.15 from a month ago. AAA estimates that drivers are spending about $275 million less per day on gasoline compared to a year ago.

According to AAA Chicago spokesperson Beth Mosher, the lower fuel pricescould extend into the holidays:

“While the cost of crude oil has risen which may push prices higher heading into November, we don’t believe that trend will last long. With any luck, we could see drivers paying the cheapest gas prices for the upcoming holidays in the last seven years.”

The average price for October in Illinois was $2.47, an increase of $.06 from the previous month. Here in Winnebago County, self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averaged $2.38 per gallon in October. It was $2.75 per gallon in Cook County.
