Congressman Adam Kinzinger (R-Channahon) is pleased to announce that three Rockford area students, nominated by the Congressman, were offered appointments at the nation’s top military academies.   In order for a student to be considered for admission to a U.S. Service Academy, he or she must receive a nomination from either their Congressman, Senator, or the Vice President.

“As the Representative of Illinois’ 16th District, each year I have the privilege of nominating a limited number of people to four of the five service academies,” said Congressman Kinzinger.  “As a proud member of the U.S. military, the responsibility of nominating potential academy attendees is one I take very seriously.  I am honored to recognize these young men and women who have committed to protect and defend our nation through service in our military academies.  The hard work and dedication displayed by these exceptional students reflect the high standards of our Service Academies which have made our military the strongest in the world. I congratulate these young leaders on their appointments and wish them the best in all their future pursuits.”

Nominees are selected based on their applications, test scores, extracurricular activities, letters of recommendation, the specific requirements of each U.S. Service Academy, and individual interviews with Congressman Kinzinger.  After nominations are submitted, each Service Academy selects which students will receive an appointment to attend. The honor of attending a service academy comes with an obligation and commitment to serve in the military for a minimum of five years upon graduation.

For students and parents interested in learning more about America’s military academies, requirements for admission, and the congressional nomination process, the Office of Congressman Kinzinger will host a Service Academy Information Session on April 11, 2015.   U.S. Service Academy representatives from the U. S. Naval Academy, U. S. Military Academy, U. S. Air Force Academy, U. S. Merchant Marine Academy, and U. S.
